Artist's Comments

"Two Detectives and a Saint" is written by Shyam Nathan. These first five pages were a sample drawn to show publishers, and will not be published in the first issue. Please enjoy, and feel free to give any advice or critique you think of!

Good work! You placed every element and added every detail Shyam asked for, including the double-page spread.

The important things are always simple.
The simple things are always hard.
The easy way is always mined.

wow. I'd like to know what's going on in this drawing! I'm such a sucker for images like this :) they pull me in and I always hope I'll find more in the deviants gallery so I can piece a story together ;)
I like that it's not colour, I think it's very strong just inked and I think colour might deter away from the story.. so nice call on that.
The perspective is really good... but I think in some areas it could be a little tighter, like the falling photo on the wall, the tiles in front of the fire place (they seem to be slanting just a wee bit further than everything else) and some of the discarded paper.

it's really neat to see a drawing that includes the backs of peoples head. They're the subject, but it also eludes to how important their atmosphere it to the story of the drawing.

Love the overall inking technique.

Really nice!

Thank you! I'm flattered :D

There is indeed a story here... "Mystery in Scarlet City" is a brand new comic, so hopefully I'll be posting more stuff from it as we get more work done. Glad you like it!
